High temp and high humidity is most in Summer, which is easily to cause heatstroke in poultry with rapid condition of illness, quick death, large death amount and serious economic losses. Therefore, it is crucial to do some measures on preventing broilers from heatstroke.
Reasons of Dieses
High breeding density, low ventilation quantity or wrong ventilation method, Inadequate water intake, high temp and humidity weather condition, all of those can be easily to cause broiler heatstroke. Based on the relevant data, when the outside temperature over 27℃, adult chicken begin breathing; when over 33℃, broiler chicken in heat stress condition; when over 35°C, for 10 minutes, there will cause broiler death, which concentrated in the time during 10 am to 4 pm, however, death in the night is mostly caused by bad ventilation.
Symptomatic diagnosis
Clinical symptoms: sick chicken with shortness of breath, mouth open panting, patting wings, water intake increased largely, feed intake reduced, more seriously, some chicken can not stand, collapse and convulsion to death, especially for big fat chicken with plenty of water inside the crop.
Control Methods
1\Reduce the housing density, that is to decrease the broiler feeding capacity in unit area. Eight broilers per square meter for standardization poultry house, for scatter shed, six broilers per square meter.
2\Increase air volume and improve air speed, to ensure good ventilation.
Vertical type ventilation is widely accepted for current standardized poultry house, requiring to close small air inlet on both sides and open big air inlet, to ensure a certain air speed. If the speed reach 2m/s, the temp on chicken body reduces 6℃; if speed reaches 2.5m/s, the temp reduces 8℃. For simple poultry shed, small type fan can be installed.
3\Anti-heat stress medicine to enhance anti-stress capability.
Add vitamin to the feedstuff, 100g-150g vitamin in 500 kg feedstuff; Add baking soda to the drinking water at 1%. At the same time, reducing temperature of drinking water, using deep well water (8-10°C),frequently changing water, and ensuring adequate drinking water.
4\For some chickens having been with heatstroke, put them in the cool water or use fan after water cooling,
