Increasing Wedding Results in Higher Prices of Chicken Meat in Pakistan
In Karachi and other big cities, retail prices of chicken rose to 340 rupees / kg (total 21 yuan / kg), about up to 70% compared with days before Ramadan. Media commented that meat price was continuously testing the public.
Analysis believes that recent soaring price in chicken meat caused by three reasons as follows: firstly, after Ramadan is the traditional Pakistani wedding and wedding banquet's large demands for chicken meats causes in short supply. Second, beef and mutton prices goes up in some degree, so some consumers shift to purchasing chicken. Third, two months ago, the retail prices of chicken was at 200 rupees / kg (total 12.5 yuan / kg), which lead to many poultry farm stop running.
